to blog or not to blog – it’s not even a question
Well, after yesterday’s debut of the San Diego North Chamber’s new QTech Workshop Series, it’s clear to me that the topic was hot and the interest in learning about blogging even hotter.
First a quick re-cap of the workshop – Brent Altomare of Groovy Like a Movie set the tone by asking for questions from the group first. I’ve got to admit, I love that approach – take the normal and turn it completely upside down. So before the first slide was shown or note was taken, Brent opened the room up for questions about blogging. It was not only bold in my opinion, but genius. Taking the usual last part of a presentation and bringing it to the top allowed Brent to cover those burning questions on the minds of the attendees and engaged the group from the first. I’m now trying to figure out how often I can employ the same technique in my presentations and addresses…but back to the workshop…
So Brent started off with a bang – encouraging thought to allow for blogging to be incorporated into just about anybody’s business plan/marketing strategy. He was followed by Dan Hull who displayed his blog, What About Clients? to provide his outline….check it out and get the nuts and bolts of Dan’s perspective. Finally, Kevin Gyberg of B2 Software, Inc. used his own blog, Three Martini Lunch to show how easy it is to maintain a blog site – Great info, great presenters and a great response from businesses attending.
We passed out a quick post-workshop survey and 93% of those in the room thought that the workshop’s information was useful and worthwhile. Not bad for the first out of the gate.
Be sure to stay tuned for QTech’s next workshop in October. Currently we’re intending to focus on Internet Marketing – diving into the SEO and SEM arenas. I’ve heard from a lot of businesses over the past couple of days on how they wished they could have made it to the workshop on Tuesday – another indicator that the Chamber is on the right track.
On a side note, anyone catch Donny Deutsch’s CNBC show last night on bosses? Very interesting – this is a great show to pick up some best practices – and includes a wide variety of points of view, so there is usually something for everyone. Check out Donny’s blog from last night’s episode, and if you aren’t able to watch, this is a must-TIVO for business folks.
Until next time… Best, MR

Thanks for offering this class. Aside from the speakers, I was the only person in the room with a blog. What this says to me is that there is tremendous opportunity for the businesses in your chamber and you are right on target with offering new age opportunities to your members. I look forward to more opportunities to learn about SEO and would like to see the chamber add an Internet Marketing Roundtable for those of us using the web as a marketing tool.
